Why become a member

You should join us if, like us, you think Dystonia Matters.

Why should you join Team Dystonia UK as a member?

You should join us if, like us, you think Dystonia Matters.

We think it matters because:

  • an estimated 100,000 people in the UK have dystonia
  • people with dystonia deserve improved access to treatments
  • there is still no cure for dystonia

By joining, you make a real difference for people affected by dystonia.

With the help of those who’ve joined so far we’ve achieved so much, including:

  • creating a support network across the UK through local and virtual support groups
  • offering advice and guidance to thousands of people including national conferences and ‘Living with Dystonia Days'
  • funding research and launching a training module for GPs in the British Medical Journal
  • raising awareness all over the world for people with dystonia and launching Dystonia Awareness Month in the UK

But as the only national charity supporting people with dystonia there is still more we can do to reach everyone with dystonia. You can help us by joining today. The more people that join Dystonia UK the stronger we are and the bigger a difference we can make.

What happens when you join Team Dystonia UK as a member?

When you join you will receive a member’s pack that includes a welcome letter with your Dystonia UK membership number and the latest hard copy of our ‘Dystonia Matters’ magazine.

You will also receive:

  • 10% discount on web merchandise
  • 3 hard copy editions per year of our magazine ‘Dystonia Matters’
  • exclusive notice of Dystonia UK events and activities
  • free access to your nearest support group

As part of the team, you can get involved in Dystonia UK’s work in all sorts of ways. There’s no pressure to do anything, but if you are keen to take action, we will support you every step of the way.

Potential options include:

  • taking part in surveys, focus groups and government consultations
  • sharing personal experiences to show the truth about dystonia
  • joining our local and national campaigns
  • fundraising to support Dystonia UK’s work
  • the opportunity to attend the Dystonia UK Annual General Meeting (AGM)
  • the chance to shape Dystonia UK’s future by voting for trustees
