Help and support Your local support group Furness and South Lakes About the group This group was started in 1997 and meets for fundraising and awareness activities (such as running several teams in the Keswick to Barrow sponsored walk). They also offer chat and refreshments (which are paid for through fundraising events). The group meets during the year for meetings and other events and activities. The group meets in a hotel. They have an Awareness Day every other year with speakers, lunch and an opportunity to socialise. There are usually 10 people that attend the meetings, and between 50 and 70 at the large Dystonia Awareness Day meetings. The group has 10 regular volunteers who take on the 3 key roles plus they have a press liaison and publicity role and a general volunteer support role. They have between 5 and 10 additional helpers who help with a range of tasks including refreshments, table and chairs, posters, managing stalls, selling tickets, making things and so on. Future meeting dates All group meetings are postponed until further notice due to COVID-19, however we would like to invite you to take this opportunity to join our virtual groups on Facebook and to reach out to people near you that you may not have met through your normal group meetings.
