About The Great North Run

The Great North Run is the UK's biggest and best half marathon which has attracted world class athletes like Mo Farah and Hannah Russel.

You will be joined by 60,000 other runners taking on the 13.1 mile route through Newcastle, over the iconic Tyne Bridge and finishing in the town of South Shields.

What you will get:

As part of Team Dystonia UK, you'll receive unparalleled support every step of the way:

  • personalised fundraising support to help you smash your targets.
  • exclusive Team Dystonia UK running gear to proudly wear on the day.
  • a dedicated cheering squad to boost your morale along the route.

Before the event

Leading up to the marathon, you'll be part of a supportive community of fellow runners and dystonia champions. Get ready to:

  • access training plans to keep you on track.
  • connect with your teammates and share running tips and motivation.
  • kickstart your fundraising journey with personalised resources and guidance.

On the day

Race day is here - the moment you've been training for! Other than all the good vibes, fitness and mental health benefits, you'll also get:

  • access to the Great Run information point for any last minute queries (or safety pins)
  • closed roads offering a safe running environment

And as you lace up your shoes and hit the pavement, remember:

  • you're not just running for yourself; you're running for everyone affected by dystonia
  • look out for our vibrant Team Dystonia UK cheering stations along the route, ready to life your spirits and energise your stride.
  • embrace the incredible atmosphere and soak in every minute of this unforgettable experience.

Congratulations, marathoner! You've crossed the finish line and achieved something extraordinary. Obviously you'll have bragging rights for the foreseeable, but you'll also get:

  • a much deserved pamper session with massages, food and drinks in the finishers lounge, thanks to our friends at Scope.
  • official event day photos available to view and purchase a couple of days after the event (so smile for the cameras!)
  • your official result ready shortly after you cross the finish line.

But your journey with Team Dystonia UK doesn't end here:

  • celebrate your incredible achievements with your teammates and supporters.

Why run for Dystonia UK?

Dystonia UK exists to give hope and support to everyone living with dystonia and to create UK and worldwide awareness. With your support we can be here for people when they feel the most isolated, providing support and information to anyone affected by dystonia. Ensuring they have access to the services they need, when they need them, to live life to the full, and we can only do that by donations and fundraisers like you.

Dystonia UK is children and adults with dystonia, carers and clinicians, fundraisers and families, medical professionals and our amazing members and supporters, all working side by side.

Our community thanks you for choosing to support Dystonia UK!
