Vice Chair of Trustees

Andy Young lives in Reading, Berkshire and has been a Trustee of Dystonia UK for several years now.

"I enjoy working with and am extremely proud of the office team, and also the roles my fellow Board members have stepped forward to voluntarily accept during what has and remains to be a tough time for charities."

He joined the Board after his wife Mandy underwent Deep Brain Stimulation in 2012 for her cervical dystonia.

"Mandy's life turned around after her DBS, which Dystonia UK fought for at the time. I wanted to help others get the same support we did."

Mandy has since taken on the role of Berkshire Group coordinator offering telephone, email and group meetings support. Together and with great local support, they often fund raise and use opportunities to create awareness for Dystonia UK.

Andy's career, with Mandy in support, spanned 32 years as the owner of a regional double glazing company gaining a wide range of skills. Together they still manage a property portfolio.

Their time supporting and fundraising for numerous charities and local support groups culminated in a Pride of Reading Award recognising in particular their 25th year in business raising £25,000.

Andy is the Vice President of Lions Club of Reading. Both Andy and Mandy are amongst the 1.4 million male and female voluntary Lions worldwide and fund raise for local individuals and groups in need as well as regional and international projects.

Whilst their daughter and most family live locally, their son and his family live in Australia. Andy is a classic car enthusiast and proud MGB owner and enjoys a spot of fly fishing. Fellow Trustee James is also a fellow fly fisherman and often sportingly claims to be the better.
