“Thank you for hosting this we had a great day and came away with lots of useful information.  Thank you to all the staff who looked after our girls so well allowing us to concentrate on the speakers”

When someone is diagnosed with dystonia it can be an isolating and lonely experience leaving them and their families facing an unknown future. The Dystonia Society is here to help. We provide support and information to anyone affected by this painful and disabling condition to ensure they have access to the services they need, when they need them, to live life to the full.

But we cannot do this alone.  We are hugely grateful to supporters who in the last year have enabled us to provide:

  • the first Children and Young Person Dystonia conference, bringing together parents and carers of children and young people with dystonia, to hear from experts in the field and to meet with others living with the same challenges;
  • the only UK Dystonia Helpline, where a dedicated and experienced team provided support and guidance to over 5,000 people needing our help;
  • a network of over 40 local and online groups providing support, dystonia workshops, training and friendship locally for people affected by the condition in their area;
  • funding for a research project into the non-motor symptoms experienced by people diagnosed with Blepharospasm;
  • an advocacy service to meet the needs of over 250 people facing refusal of benefits, employment or education rights because of their dystonia;
  • representation in regional and national parliaments to tell the story of people’s experience living with this condition and the impact it has on their daily lives.

But we can, need and will do more.  Our Annual Grand Draw is a major way for us to raise much needed funds to continue our vital work.  Last year, thanks to the efforts of supporters we raised over £10,000 which enabled us to make a real difference to people impacted by dystonia.

If you are able to sell tickets to friends, colleagues and neighbours it would be a great way to raise awareness of dystonia, as well as raising money to help continue our vital work.  Or you could buy tickets yourself and be in with a chance of winning.

One caller to our helpline said:

“Until I called, I felt like no-one was taking me seriously or acknowledging my problem; after the phone call I felt like I'd been listened to and understood. I've gone from feeling suicidal to feeling that someone cares and that I can face the future one day at a time.”

We know not everyone wants to buy or sell raffle tickets but you can support us in other ways, by giving your time, telling us your experiences, fundraising or raising awareness, for more information or support please contact our team on 020 7793 3651 or [email protected].

The Dystonia Society exists to serve everyone impacted by this condition – to provide support, information and most of all hope. 2019 is our 35th anniversary year so your support is even more important, helping us to build on the past and giving us immediate resources that will enable us to make a real difference in the future.

Thank you for your support and most of all good luck!
