Trihexyphenidyl
We are aware that some of you have been having difficulty with accessing the drug known as Trihexyphenidyl. We have contacted the manufacturers who have advised us that the reason why this drug has been in short supply was that there was until recently two manufacturers but one suddenly and without warning stopped producing this drug. This put huge pressures on Genus the other manufacturer and led to a shortage of stock.
This problem has now been rectified and there should no longer be a shortage. However if there is a problem here is what you can do:
1. If your usual pharmacy has run out then you can take your prescription to another pharmacy that will almost certainly have supplies.
2. If the above is not possible then ask your local pharmacist to contact Genus on 01635 568 400 who can either advise the pharmacist on stock availability or provide emergency supply to meet a prescription.
To give you further reassurance on the long term availability of Trihexyphenidyl, if there is only one manufacturer of a product, the DOH does not allow that company to withdraw their license whilst there are patients still being prescribed the medication.
